Privacy Policy

Koala Nest LLC (“Koala Nest,” “we,” “us,” or “our”) respects your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains how we handle information in connection with our websites, mobile applications, support forms, and related services.

Our guiding principle is simple: privacy should be built in from the start.

1. Scope of This Privacy Policy

This Privacy Policy applies to all Koala Nest mobile applications, including TallyTree, as well as the Koala Nest website, our Contact page and support forms, and related communications and support.

This Privacy Policy does not apply to third-party websites, platforms, or services that we do not control, including Apple’s App Store, Apple ID, iCloud, CloudKit, StoreKit, or device-level services.

2. Summary of Our Current Privacy Practices

Our current apps are designed with privacy and families in mind.

3. App-Specific Storage Practices and Future Apps

Koala Nest applications may use different storage systems depending on the features of each app.

Our current apps are designed so app data is stored on the user’s device and, when enabled, in the user’s Apple iCloud account. Koala Nest does not operate its own servers to store current app data.

Future Koala Nest apps may use Koala Nest-operated servers or third-party service providers to provide features such as account access, cross-device sync, family collaboration, backups, security, customer support, or other app functionality.

If a future Koala Nest app uses Koala Nest-operated servers or third-party service providers to store or process app data, that app’s privacy disclosures will explain what data is collected, why it is collected, where it is stored, who processes it, how long it is retained, how it is protected, and how users may request access, export, correction, or deletion.

If a future app supports account creation, Koala Nest will provide a way for users to initiate account deletion as required by applicable App Store requirements and will update the applicable privacy disclosures before or when required.

4. Family Task and Rewards App Data

Some Koala Nest apps, such as TallyTree, are designed for family tasks, habits, rewards, points, progress, routines, and household coordination.

Depending on how users use the app, a family task and rewards app may store household-entered information such as tasks, rewards, points, routines, progress, household settings, names, nicknames, and related app content.

For our current family task and rewards app, this app data is stored locally in the app’s sandboxed Core Data stores and, when iCloud is enabled, synced through Apple CloudKit to the user’s private iCloud database.

Some apps may also use Apple CloudKit sharing features where a user chooses to share records with other iCloud users. Shared records remain within Apple iCloud/CloudKit systems and are shared only with the iCloud users selected through Apple’s sharing flow.

Koala Nest does not store current family task and rewards app data on Koala Nest-operated servers or third-party app servers. Koala Nest does not receive, view, sell, or use that app data for advertising, tracking, analytics, or profiling.

5. Device, Core Data, iCloud, and CloudKit Storage

Koala Nest apps may use Apple technologies such as Core Data, CloudKit, StoreKit, SwiftUI, UIKit, Foundation, and related Apple frameworks.

Current app data is stored on the user’s device and, when iCloud is enabled, in the user’s iCloud account using Apple CloudKit. Koala Nest does not operate a backend database for current app data.

When iCloud sync is enabled, app data may be transmitted to and stored by Apple as part of the user’s iCloud account. Koala Nest does not control Apple ID, iCloud, device backups, iCloud storage, iCloud security settings, or Apple’s systems. Apple’s handling of iCloud data is governed by Apple’s Privacy Policy.

Users and caregivers can manage app data through the app, the device, and iCloud settings.

6. Apple Security and Encryption

Koala Nest’s current apps are designed so app data remains within the user’s device and Apple iCloud environment, rather than being stored on Koala Nest servers.

Apple provides device-level and iCloud security protections for data stored on Apple devices and in iCloud. Koala Nest relies on Apple’s built-in device, iCloud, and CloudKit security systems for app data stored locally or in iCloud.

No method of electronic storage or transmission is completely secure, and Koala Nest cannot guarantee absolute security.

7. App Store Purchases, Subscriptions, and StoreKit

Some Koala Nest apps offer optional paid features. Depending on the app, paid features may take the form of a one-time non-consumable in-app purchase (for example, a one-time “Family Pack” unlock) or an auto-renewing subscription. All purchase, renewal, refund, cancellation, restore, and receipt-validation activity is handled by Apple through the App Store and Apple StoreKit. Koala Nest does not operate its own billing system.

Where a Koala Nest app offers a one-time non-consumable purchase, your entitlement is associated with your Apple ID and may be restored on devices signed in to that Apple ID. Where the app and product are configured to support it, the entitlement may also be shared through Apple Family Sharing in accordance with Apple’s rules.

Where a Koala Nest app offers an auto-renewing subscription, the subscription will renew at the end of each billing period at the price disclosed at purchase unless cancelled at least 24 hours before the end of the current period through your Apple ID subscription settings. Where a free trial or introductory offer is provided, the subscription begins automatically at the end of the trial unless cancelled before the trial ends. Subscription management, cancellation, and refund requests are handled by Apple.

Koala Nest does not receive your full payment card number or Apple ID password. When a purchase is made, Koala Nest receives only the limited transaction information that Apple provides to the app (such as product identifier, transaction status, and entitlement state) so that the app can unlock the corresponding features on your device.

If a specific app describes a different purchase or billing arrangement, that app’s disclosures will explain it.

8. User-Initiated Exports and Sharing

Some Koala Nest apps may allow users to generate reports, CSV files, PDFs, summaries, or other exports. These exports may be generated on-device and handed to Apple’s system share sheet or similar user-controlled sharing tools.

When you choose to export or share information, you choose the destination. Depending on your choice, information may be sent to another app, person, service, device, email provider, file provider, or cloud storage provider. That recipient or destination handles the information according to its own terms and privacy practices.

Koala Nest does not automatically upload exports to Koala Nest servers.

9. Website Links Opened from the App

Koala Nest apps may contain static links to our Privacy Policy, Terms of Use, support pages, or related website pages. These links may open in Safari or an in-app browser controlled by Apple system behavior.

The app itself does not send app data to Koala Nest through those links.

10. Information We May Collect Through the Contact Page

If you contact us through our Contact page or support form, we may collect information you choose to provide, such as your name, contact information you provide, message content, app name, device type, screenshots or attachments you choose to send, and technical details relevant to your request.

We use this information to respond to your request, provide support, review feedback, handle privacy requests, maintain business records, protect our rights, and comply with legal obligations.

Please do not include sensitive medical information in the Contact form. For urgent medical concerns, contact a qualified healthcare professional or emergency services.

11. Website Hosting and Contact Form Processing

Our website may be hosted by a website hosting provider, and our Contact form may be processed by a form service provider. If this site is deployed using Netlify Forms, Netlify may process form submissions and related technical information so that the Contact form can operate.

We use contact form submissions only to review and respond to the request submitted. We do not sell contact form submissions or use them for advertising.

We recommend that users avoid submitting sensitive medical information through the Contact form.

12. Website Technical Information

When you visit our website, our hosting provider, form provider, or security tools may process limited technical information, such as IP address, browser type, device type, pages visited, approximate date and time of access, and basic diagnostic or security logs.

We use this information to operate, secure, maintain, and improve our website and contact forms.

13. Information We Do Not Collect Through Our Current Apps

Unless a specific app clearly states otherwise, Koala Nest’s current apps do not collect through Koala Nest servers: precise location, contacts, photos, camera data, microphone recordings, advertising identifiers, browsing history, payment card information, or app data created inside the app.

Some app data may include health-related or caregiver-entered information, but current app data is designed to remain on the user’s device and, when enabled, in the user’s iCloud account rather than being stored on Koala Nest servers.

If an app ever requests access to sensitive device permissions, the app will explain the reason for that request.

14. Website Advertising and Measurement

To reach families and caregivers who might be interested in our apps, we may run advertising on third-party advertising networks. These may include Meta (Facebook and Instagram), Google (including Google Ads and the Google Display Network), and other advertising platforms we may use from time to time. When you visit the Koala Nest website, we may use advertising and measurement tools provided by these networks, including pixels, tags, conversion APIs, and related technologies.

These tools may place cookies (including first-party cookies set by the koalanest.com domain) on your device and send limited information about your visit to the advertising network. The information sent may include pages visited, buttons clicked, approximate location derived from IP address, browser type, device type, referrer URL, and a randomly generated advertising or click identifier.

The advertising network uses this information to measure which of our ads led to website visits, to show our ads to people with similar interests on its own services or partner sites, and to bill us for advertising. We do not send the names, email addresses, or message content you submit through our Contact form to advertising networks.

Apps versus website. The Koala Nest apps themselves do not use third-party advertising, third-party tracking, third-party analytics, or behavioral profiling SDKs. The disclosures in this section apply only to the Koala Nest website. We do not use Koala Nest app data for advertising.

A note on cookie types. Some advertising tools use first-party cookies that are technically set by koalanest.com, rather than third-party cookies set by the advertising network. The distinction is a technical one. Regardless of cookie type, the information collected by these tools is shared with the advertising network that provides them.

Your choices. You can:

Our use of an advertising network does not change how our apps handle your information. App data continues to live on your device and, when iCloud is enabled, in your private iCloud account, as described elsewhere in this Privacy Policy.

15. Analytics, Advertising, Crash Reporting, and Tracking in the Apps

The Koala Nest apps are designed not to use third-party advertising, third-party tracking, third-party analytics, crash-reporting SDKs, telemetry SDKs, or behavioral profiling SDKs. Website advertising and measurement is described in Section 14 above.

We do not sell personal information.

We do not use Koala Nest app data to track users across third-party apps or websites for advertising purposes.

If we add analytics, crash reporting, advertising, telemetry, server APIs, or other third-party SDKs to our apps in the future, we will update this Privacy Policy and our App Store privacy disclosures as required.

16. Logging

Koala Nest apps may use Apple’s local logging tools for diagnostics. Our current apps are designed not to log personal, health, household, or caregiver-entered app data.

Local device logs are controlled by the user’s device and Apple developer tools. Koala Nest does not operate a remote logging or telemetry endpoint for app data.

17. How We Use Information

We use information for limited purposes, including providing app functionality, responding to support requests, reviewing feedback, troubleshooting issues, improving app reliability and usability, operating and securing our website, complying with legal obligations, and protecting our rights and users.

We do not use children’s app data for advertising.

18. Sharing of Information

We do not sell personal information.

We may share limited information only in the following circumstances:

Service Providers

We may use service providers to operate our website, contact forms, hosting, security, or support systems. These providers may process information only as needed to provide services to us.

Apple Services

Our apps may rely on Apple services, such as App Store distribution, StoreKit, device storage, iCloud, CloudKit, and system sharing features. Your use of Apple services is governed by Apple’s applicable terms and privacy policies.

User-Initiated Sharing

If you use an export, report, share sheet, or CloudKit sharing feature, information may be shared with the destination or iCloud users you select.

Legal Compliance and Protection

We may disclose information if required by law, legal process, court order, government request, or if necessary to protect rights, safety, security, users, or the integrity of our services.

Business Transfer

If Koala Nest LLC is involved in a merger, acquisition, financing, restructuring, or sale of assets, information may be transferred as part of that transaction, subject to appropriate protections.

19. Children’s Privacy

Koala Nest builds family-focused apps, and some apps may be used by children with parent or guardian involvement.

Our current apps are designed not to knowingly collect personal information from children of any age through Koala Nest servers. This is intended to comply with the U.S. Children’s Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA), the EU General Data Protection Regulation as it applies to children (GDPR-K), and analogous laws in other jurisdictions.

Children should not submit personal information through our Contact page without a parent or legal guardian.

If you believe a child under 13 has provided personal information to Koala Nest through our Contact page or support form, please submit a request through our Contact page and we will take reasonable steps to delete the information.

Where applicable, parents or guardians may request access to, correction of, or deletion of personal information provided to Koala Nest.

20. Parent and Guardian Controls

Parents and guardians can manage a child’s app data by reviewing data inside the app, using the “Delete All Data” option inside the app’s Settings (where available), deleting individual records inside the app where supported, deleting the app from the device, managing iCloud storage and sync settings, using Apple Family Sharing, Screen Time, and parental controls, and submitting support or privacy requests through our Contact page.

Because current app data is designed to remain on the device and in the user’s iCloud account, Koala Nest may not be able to access or delete app data directly.

21. Data Retention

App Data

App data stored on your device or in your iCloud account remains under your control. You may delete app data through the app, your device settings, iCloud settings, or by deleting the app, depending on how the app is configured.

Contact and Support Data

We retain information submitted through our Contact page only as long as reasonably necessary to respond to your request, provide support, maintain business records, comply with legal obligations, resolve disputes, and protect our rights.

You may request deletion of contact-form-related personal information through our Contact page.

22. Account Creation and Deletion

Our current apps do not require Koala Nest account creation. Identity and sync, where available, use the user’s Apple ID and iCloud account.

If we release an app that allows users to create a Koala Nest account, we will provide a way for users to initiate account deletion and will update this Privacy Policy accordingly.

23. Your Privacy Choices and Rights

Depending on where you live, you may have rights under privacy laws such as the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), UK GDPR, California Consumer Privacy Act / California Privacy Rights Act (CCPA/CPRA), Virginia Consumer Data Protection Act (VCDPA), and similar laws, including the right to request access, correction, deletion, portability, limitation, or objection regarding personal information we maintain about you. You may also have the right to opt out of sale or sharing of personal information, where applicable.

To exercise privacy rights, please use our Contact page. We may need to verify your request before responding.

24. Sale and Sharing for Targeted Advertising

We do not sell personal information.

We do not use Koala Nest app data for cross-context behavioral advertising.

As described in Section 14, the Koala Nest website may use advertising and measurement tools from third-party advertising networks (such as Meta, Google, and other ad platforms) that send limited website-visit information to those networks so we can evaluate and target ads for our apps. Under California law, this activity may be treated as “sharing” for cross-context behavioral advertising. You can opt out of this through your browser settings, the advertising network’s own controls, or by contacting us at support@koalanest.com.

We do not use children’s app data for targeted advertising.

If our practices change further, we will update this Privacy Policy and provide any required notices or choices.

25. International Users

Koala Nest LLC is based in the United States. If you use our apps or website from outside the United States, your information may be processed in the United States or other countries where our service providers operate.

Where required, we will take appropriate steps to protect personal information transferred internationally.

26. Changes to This Privacy Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we update it, we will change the “Last Updated” date above. If changes are material, we may provide additional notice where appropriate.
